We will begin accepting applications to join our 2027 Film and Awards Curation Community in March, 2026.

• The main requirements are: a passion for and knowledge of cinema and ecology; the ability to articulate opinions about films in (written) english; and a strong desire to participate.

• People of all ages living everywhere are eligible to apply.

• Filmmakers and people working on ecology and place-based storytelling are encouraged to apply.

• The rolling application period begins on March 1, 2026.

• Period of service begins when you are invited to join the committee (duration of service depends on your availability).

• An orientation (online via Zoom) is required before watching film submissions.

• Watching the previous year’s (2026) award winners is required before viewing 2027 film submissions.

• The final date to review films will be December 1, 2026.

• Minimum time commitment is 30 hours (20 hours for filmmakers). Zoom orientation and 2026 films count as 5 (five) hours towards this minimum.

• Community members receive several “perks,” including free admission to all Portland EcoFilm Festival screenings, invitations to community gatherings and events, and more!
